Project Description

As part of this exciting project, the recovery of the largest landfill in Moldova is being implemented. The resulting landfill gases are degassed and electricity is generated during the process.

Moldavia is one of the smallest countries in south-east Europe.  Since Moldova lacks domestic sources of fossil fuels, they must be imported. This means, that the funding of renewable energies is not only an ecological, but also an economic interest of the state, which is planned to be expanded in the future.

Moldova’s energy strategy is also part of their political agenda. In addition to general political goals, specific measures for the years 2013 – 2030 are also mentioned. Concrete guidelines for the development of the national energy sector were defined in order to guarantee the necessary foundations for economic growth and social security.

Some of the main goals of the Moldovan energy strategy include e.g. 20% of the total end consumption should be covered by renewable energy sources, 10% of the electricity generation should be regenerative, the energy demand should be reduced by 10%, the reduction of the losses in transmission and distribution networks by 11% for electricity, by 39% for natural gas and by 5% for heat compared to the year 2009, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 25% compared to the level of 1990 and 10% of the public building stock is to be renovated.
