In consequence of the biological processes occurring in the body of landfills, a gas, which has a negative impact on the environment, mainly because of the odor, forms. Moreover, biogas is one of the end products of biological treatment. The use of biogas at the existing SDW landfills is one of the most important areas of our work. Preliminary surveys are carried out, gas forecasts are made and degassing units are being built, the company operates a gas gathering system and degassing units at landfills on the request of REAG.
The landfill gas consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide. Methane is a combustible, inflammable gas and, after carbon dioxide, the most significant of the gases that create a greenhouse effect and its effect is 20 to 30 times stronger than that of carbon dioxide. Without taking appropriate measures, landfill gas is released from the body of the landfill, spreads offensive odors and promotes the development of the greenhouse effect. Due to the harmful effect that methane has on the climate, and also out of the safety concerns, it should be disposed of in a safe manner, in other words, it should be burned by a flare or used for the production of power. We build and operate gas processing units, which consist of gas wells, rigoles, gas gathering stations. Primarily, the landfill gas is drained, purified and then processed by gas motors into electrical power. Gas motors are equipped with the afterburner of hazardous gases, which reduces air pollution. The condensate generated during the landfill gas purification is delivered to a treatment plant where it is treated.
The cities have a significant negative impact on the environment. The example of such influence is a large amount of waste that is generated in cities and placed for storage at the landfills. Our technology helps to reduce the release of methane, neutralize odors, helps to prevent fires, which significantly improves the ecological situation in the city and the surrounding areas.
